SP E-learning Week 19-23 Dec 2005

I have just gone for a briefing on e-learning week in the coming semester. It appears that SP is also making inroads into this new trend of "e-learning".

Simply stated, the entire week of 19-23 Dec will be designated as e-learning week for the entire campus. Btw, this is just before the 1-week break. NO classes are allowed to be here, not even practical. Whatever lectures and tutorials are converted into online learning, probably on Blackboard. Perhaps, video and voice will accompany the normal PowerPoint files. Wow, isn't this exciting?

What about practical? Will they be converted too? At this point, there is no definite answer yet. Hmmm.... how do you do a practical online anyway?

Students are not allowed to meet their instructors during this week. For those students without PCs at home, they may return to campus to make use of its computer facilties.

Are all these developments good or bad? Will students actually make the effort to do online learning? Is e-learning effective in teaching certain concepts which require face-to-face interaction? Will this lead to more work for everybody? Will this be permanent or will the week be extended to a month or more?

Lots of questions and uncertainties... guess we will only find out when the e-learning week is upon us. Stay tuned for further developments!
