TICs are the latest development in campus. The idea is simple. They are the coordinators for all consultancy work coming to SP. All requests go through them and they farm out the actual work to the relevant staff in the TICs or the academic schools. Something like a middleman. So what is the added value? They are supposed to market SP as the preferred consultant, as well as to be the point-man if something goes wrong. Sounds good? And the Archilles heel? Staff will not be getting any consultancy fee. We have now become part of the consultancy machine or consultancy has now become part of our job. Anyway, the devil is in the details so we just have to wait and see how it can be implemented.
